Rest in Peace

The Garage CD of the week is new but not new.
The Stamer band was recorded live in 1995 at the Fairview, the tapes of which set have been restored. This captures the band and singer in relaxed form, soloing generously and vamping like mad. Stamer, who is now retired, always had a crack band and this one includes the late, revered Robbie King.
The fare is a diverse array of blues including a funky “Jailhouse Rock” and a version of “Red House” that allows guitarist Russ Marsland to bring out his inner Jimi Hendrix. Nice, atmospheric cover art by Tom Carter, too.

Hans Stamer's original Hofner guitar from Germany when he was but a Boy.
Hans gifted the guitar to me, and I am honoured.
It had a broken headstock, stuck back on with a screw and some glue which had seeped out and formed a great lump, as well as the back had caved in from somebody sitting on it at a house party.
My Dear friend Mike, faithfully restored it to playing condition and it is a treasure to me.
